California and it’s “Atmospheric river”
In January of 2023 California’s “atmospheric rivers” flow
Week after week, the coast of California and inland communities experienced waves of strong winds, driving rains and flooding.
Although calculations are still being gathered it seems that the losses are estimated to exceed 1 billion.
Many areas experienced fallen trees impacting home and businesses and power outages. while some areas experienced flash flooding.
If you were flooded and have flood insurance then be certain to file a separate claim immediately. The “National Flood Insurance Program” - NFIP requires that a completed proof of loss be submitted within 60 days of the date of loss. This date will approach quickly so do not delay.
You can document damages by doing the following:
Photograph the sides of your home and where able, safely photo the roof.
Take interior photos of each room, begin with the ceiling, then walls, then floor.
Take photos of any damaged property like furniture, bedding, appliances, etc. Be systematic by first taking a photo of the room, then the item, then a closeup of the storm or water damage.
Begin compiling a list, room by room of damaged items, along with the value and age of each item. This list should be coordinated with your photos.
